Green Planet Awards

2009
The Green Planet Awards were a third level initiative, which encouraged students to consider how human actions impact on the environment. The theme of the 2009 awards was ‘Eco-Eating’, which aimed to highlight the United Nations’ IPCC (International Panel on Climate Change) conclusion that “the greatest single contribution an individual can make to averting climate change is to adopt a vegetarian or vegan diet”. A group of students from the Environmental Society at the Sligo Institute of Technology were awarded the top prize for their interactive and well planned ‘Eco-Eating Week’ which they organised in their college in late March. The Awards were hosted by Irish model and animal activist Rosanna Davidson.
