RAMS’ POCKET RADIO is Peter McCauley, a drummer, pianist and songwriter from Lisburn, Northern Ireland.

For his live performances Peter is joined onstage by friends, and between them they create an intense and unmissable musical experience.  Within a year of being, the band have already picked up an award from the Music Quest competition, and were positioned in the exclusive Hotpress ‘Hot for 2010′ list in February.  Rams’ Pocket Radio has gathered a volume of positive reviews and has received airplay both locally and nationally,  including two Radio 1 NI live sessions and selection for the prestigious BBC 6 Music ‘Introducing’ podcast with Tom Robinson and 2 2FM playlists. Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol chose “Dogs” has his “Track of the Month” in Q magazine.

They have performed extensively throughout Northern Ireland and more recently the UK and Germany playing a variety of well attended shows and performing with artists such as Darwin Deez, Iain Archer, Duke Special and Tuneyards – on top of a well-received sets at Glastonbury’s BBC Introducing Stage, SXSW and most recently Other Voices

Who, though, is ‘Rams’, and what is the significance of his pocket radio? Peter’s pseudonym is taken from the 1950’s product designer Dieter Rams: viewed by many as the key inspiration behind the iPod, and various Apple products. “I was reading an article about historical icons in Wallpaper magazine,” says McCauley, “and they had set out a reconstruction of Rams’ desk. On it was a pocket radio, and I was amazed at how ahead of his time he was, if you look at the iPod today. He had a real manifesto for working, and that’s the main thing I’ve taken from him: purity, simplicity and longevity were his main concerns, and they’re mine as well. You want to build something that could last forever.”
