ChoiceCuts are hosting a selection of mouthwatering gigs to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Check out what they have lined up for their grand finale – music lovers, hold on to your shorts! Your city is just about to be blown away by Another Honest Jon’s Chop Up. Brought to you by the folks at ChoiceCuts and the influential West London label Honest Jon (co-owned by Damon Albarn, specialising in releasing wonderful music; from post- war black music in Britain to African highlife, from 70s English folk to modern Southern Soul), this will be a night of unforgettable music featuring some of the world’s hottest acts collaborating live on stage, all at once.
Back in 2008 the first-ever Honest Jon’s Chop Up took place at the Barbican in London. It was a riotous feast of music for the senses, the fruits of a live collaboration of global artists who all had recorded for the Honest Jon record label.
And now the label is set to bring you Another Honest Jon’s Chop Up! This year, for only four exclusive shows taking place in Dublin, Cork (sold out!), London and Paris, you can feast on a fresh helping of extraordinary artists performing and collaborating in one unique show.
Another Honest Jon’s Chop Up will feature Damon Albarn, Afrobeat legend Tony Allenand bassist Flea, plus hotly tipped Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara, Chicago brass sensation Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and Detroit techno/house alchemist Theo Parrish, to name a few.
It will be a 2 ½ hour fully rehearsed show exploring new music recorded by Damon Albarn, Flea, Tony Allen & Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and some of the material recorded by Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and their father Kelan Phil Cohran.
Expect plenty more artists to be announced before the event – there will be 25 musicians on stage for this unforgettable show. It’s a recipe for an unmissable sonic stew, grab your tickets and get stuck in! Remember..only four happening worldwide so tickets are advised!
ABOUT CHOICECUTS
Over the last 10 years, ChoiceCuts have built up a solid and well deserved reputation for their work on concerts, festivals and club nights. Started by 3 friends, Mark Murphy, Donal Thornton and Loughlin McSweeney, they initially began as DJs/music promoters. As avid music fans, they began to put together hip hop, electronic, jazz, funk and soul shows in Ireland – making what was a hobby into a business. Carefully curated, these shows were all about bringing diverse and exciting artists to these shores that folks had not had an opportunity to see before. Mark’s work as a DJ meant that he was ahead of the curve in finding out about new music and approaching the artists to come and play here in Ireland. Over the years, the business has developed into much more than strictly that of music promotion. They have diversified using their individual talents to turn these shows into not-to-be-missed events. Loughlin’s digital expertise, Donal’s design savvy and Mark’s skills as a promoter/producer have seen ChoiceCuts grow from strength to strength.
In the last year alone, they have worked with the likes of Q Tip, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, De La Soul, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (for whom they are business partners with, they also produced a record with them in 2010) and Damon Albarn(Albarn’s label distributed the Hypnotic’s record and Mark has been instrumental in putting together the line-up in Another Honest Jon’s Chop Up shows). Through a decade of hard work, perseverance and more than a little fun, ChoiceCuts has grown into a hugely important independent brand in the music industry. Sticking to their guns and putting their principles before profit has earned ChoiceCuts a tremendous amount of respect – and made Ireland an essential stop on the tour itineraries of many exciting acts.
